Happy nearly Memorial Day, all!
It's another week, and I'm wrapping up the next Littlemoon book, Forbidden Secrets. It has been a lot of fun to write. I really like Everhart Rose, and Lennox Easton. She's an interesting character.
I hope you enjoy it.
Something was brought up on my FB page, and I thought I'd bring it up here since it's very important to me.
Reviews. I know most of you hate leaving them. I get it. I don't like it either. I always feel like I have to write something fascinating, or I have to be clever. Still, I do it. Here's why.
Last month, when I released Haven of Nightmares, I got tons of feedback in email and on fB, yet, with selling crazy amounts of copies (thousands), it received 10 reviews. That's it. I know more people read it. The kindle Unlimited tells me how many pages each month. Still, it barely received a review. Less than 1% of you left one.
As a writer, who bases my following years books on feedback, I have to assume you didn't like it. With very little feedback, I have to assume you're only reading that series to fill in the time. So, I've made a decision. I'm going to start cutting back.
Honestly, it kills me to do this. I love my job, but Amazon won't promote me unless I have 25 + reviews per book. That means I have to go out and start promoting, which means I have to stop writing to do it. I gave you guys 12 books this year. Most authors give you 2 max, unless it's a serial where you pay per chapter.
It upsets me.
I work 16 hour days to get these books out to you. My team works tirelessly to make sure they are edited well, and ready for you to read. It's a huge undertaking for one book. It's ridiculous for 12.
So, next year, I was going to give you guys 13 books, but I can't do it. I don't know what books to focus on, since I'm not getting reviews. It's awesome to get a review on a series, but you have to review each book, or there's no point. Amazon is working against indies like me.
It sucks, but it's the rules of the game.
I had a huge year planned. Another double release (Again, less than 15 reviews for them each of those books too) and I really wanted to give you 1200 more pages of the FBI series. If Amazon doesn't promote my books, and I have to start paying for each book promotion, one thing happens.
The price goes up.
I like to give you guys each 500-600 page book for 3.99. That's darn hard. Where a lot of authors are making money by charging per chapter (one made 42.00 for ONE book by the time the chapters were out and it was the same amount of pages as mine )
I really hope the reason you're not leaving review is time constraint, and that you don't hate my books, but I don't know anymore. I've begged, placed it in the back of the books, and pretty much offered up my soul for reviews.
I'm going to have to cut out the Littlemoon series, possibly drop the vamps, and even lose the Oracle series if my reviews don't start picking up. This isn't about me, guys. This is about how tough Amazon makes it for us indies.
If you read it, please review it. If it's not a 4 star, so? Not a 5? Not a big deal. At least leave some clue that I can figure out what I'm doing wrong, or right. I have over 200 blog hits a day. I know that means that at least 200 of you are reading my books.
I just don't get it.
I really don't.
I won't be releasing next year's book schedule, because as it stands, there may only be a few releases. Maybe 12 books a year is too much for you, the reader. I don't know. I haven't a clue.
Are you happy with my work?
Hate it?
Do you wish there was more?
Less?
Anyway, rant over.
back to work.
I have a book to get out. Then an FBI release next month. I really hope more of you start reviewing, or Morgan Kelley just may be shutting down. What choice do I have? This is the core of my job, and I'm not getting feedback and reviews.
It's all up to you guys.
Much love, mayhem, and murder.
Morgan
PS. For those of you who have left reviews, I really appreciate it. Thank you for your feedback. You're the best.
