Clean up and re-edit.

Hi all!

Just popping in to tell you all that all of the FBI/Romance series is going back in for an edit and reproofing. There were some conversion issues, and grammatical issues that needed to be taken care of before I leave for hiatus.

Vegas is Dying (Book 2) is on schedule for a release at the end of July. So far we look to be on track, but as we get closer to the date, I'll let you know.

Christmas is Killing (Book 3) is heading off to Tammy next week to get it's first read through. It won't be released until the day after Thanksgiving, so hang in there.

Devil Hath Come (Book 7) is going to be detailed in 2 weeks, and should be ready for proofing by August 20th. It's slotted for an October 1st release.

Thank you all for contacting me this week and asking all your great questions! I will try and get back to each email as quickly as possible! Also the feedback is welcome and helps me make the books more enjoyable for everyone.

I did have some great questions that I'm going to address here.

Morgan,
When you get a bad review, how do you deal with it?
Charleen

I try to remember that everyone isn't always going to like my books. If it's related to something that is grammatical, I never get mad. Much like many things in life, I'm a work in progress and there is always room to learn. I don't have the luxury of a giant publishing house behind me, so the small team that does my editing and proofing works very hard.
People make mistakes, and it's a part of life.
When I get an email that tells me that there is grammatical issues, I work very hard to fix them or have someone on the team do it. I strive to put out every book perfectly, but things happen. Sometimes it's out of my control, like with kindle formatting. It can come across all messed up, or certain words don't translate correctly. I just fix it and move on.
NOW- when it comes to criticism on a direction I took the characters or story, that I don't take well. Since it's my story to tell, I really have final say. Will everyone like Ethan, Callen and Elizabeth having a sexual relationship? No. Does that make me wish I never went there? No. I love my characters and want them to come across how I saw them in my head. When they get trashed, it wounds, but I keep moving forward.
It is what it is...

Morgan,
Do you have a career outside writing?
Betty

Other than being a wife and mother, no. I work full time at home as a writer. This is my profession. There are days I'm glad that I'm home all day, and others not so much...

Thank you all for your emails and correspondence. I appreciate each and every one of you!

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,
Morgan.

PS. I was just interviewed today for our local paper. I can't wait to ship it off to my parents on July 30th when it comes out. And my father thought killing wasn't lucrative...

Poor Deep Dark Mire...

My fourth book in the series is taking a beating.
Why?
The threesome.
Because I dared to step outside the box and give Elizabeth two men in her life, it's getting the crap kicked out of it. I get when people don't like threesomes, but it's fiction people. Take it with a grain of salt.
I don't personally see the issue. It's not cheap tawdry sex where I make the relationship crass or vile. It's about love between three people.
I also warned everyone. So, did they think I was kidding that there was going to be a threesome in book 4?

It's all so mind boggling, and I know I shouldn't let it bother me, but it does. I hate to see people say they can't read further, because I ruined the relationship.
NO. I've changed it. The relationship is still there between Ethan and Elizabeth, it's just stronger and shows that we can love more than one person in life.
When you read J.R.R Tolkien and he killed off characters in the book, did you stop reading? Or did you continue on and see what he had planned?
Fiction is just that. MADE UP works of literature meant to entertain you and make you live a fantasy you normally might not experience.

I don't plan on making excuses for my books. If you want a twosome, Emma and Greyson fit the bill, and so will Tori and Julian. If you want something outside the realm of same old romance, Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen are your heroes and heroines.

Maybe we should think back to what our mother's told us growing up. You should keep an open mind before being too judgmental.

For all you that love my novels, thank you for being supportive and trusting me to tell you a story that you'll enjoy. For those of you that freak out and quit...

You have no idea the fun you're missing.

Much love, Murder and Mayhem.

Morgan

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence day

Good morning all!

I hope you all have fun plans for the holiday!  I will be spending it eating copious amounts of food!  Hello cow and pig!

As for work, Devil Hath Come (book 7) is complete! YAY! It's not due to head into editing and proofing until the end of August. I hope you all enjoy it. Again, I answer the big question of 'DOES SHE KILL ETHAN OR CALLEN'.
Let's just say I did have some teary moments.
(I know, I'm very mean...)

Vegas is Dying (book 2) is still in editing process, and is slotted for a July 31st release, but it may be held up a week. I hope you all enjoy it when it comes out. I happen to love Emma and Greyson a great deal. He's my caveman and a throw back to an era long gone, where men were men and liked to be bossy. I hope Emma can handle him... *wink wink*
(for those of you freaked out about the threesome in the FBI/Series, I can promise you there won't one in that series. So, fear not! Greyson would never share Emma. He'd lose his mind.)

Sacred Burial Grounds is going in for a re-edit and second edition makeover. Some reviews have said there's issues, so I'm sending it back to be reworked.

I'm officially done writing for this year. When I get back from my hiatus in September, I'll be working on all the books for 2014.

I hope you all have a really great holiday! Eat lots of food and have fun!

Thank you all for a great summer of reviews and sales!

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

In the home stretch...

Morning all!

I've been silent this week because I've been working. I'm 100 pages from completing Devil Hath Come (book 7) in the FBI/Romance series. It's been fun. I love it so far. In this book, I'm going to be addressing the issue that has been circulating about me killing off Ethan or Callen. If it's going to happen, this is the story.
I'm not going to tell you more than that. Sorry :)

I'm also working on the edits for Vegas is Dying (book 2) in the Croft & Croft series. Tammy had a few things she didn't like, so I need to go in and tweak them a bit. Unfortunately, I can't start them until I wrap the book I'm currently working on. I don't like to mix storylines. It gets confusing.

I've received a few emails asking if I deleted my FB acct. Yes, I did. I was getting creeped out (and trust me when I say that takes a great deal) I'm not big on technology anyway. I'm a firm believer that things like FB and Twitter interfere with my creative process and add distraction. I don't like to feel unfocused.

Anyway, Devil Hath Come  will be finished by Tuesday at the latest- just in time for the Forth of July. It's my last book of the year I'm obligated to write, so now I'll get ready for hiatus and plotting out next years work.

Looking forward to my month in Myrtle Beach at the end of August. If anyone has any suggestions for fun things to do, send me an email or post me a comment. I love hearing from you.

Thank you all for making June a successful month! I'm still on Amazon's top 100 author list. The view is awesome!
I owe it all to you and Elizabeth!

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

Just another day with the Blackhawks...

Morning everyone!

It's not even three am here and I'm up and getting ready to work.
Coffee ... check
Brain...  ehhhh check.
plot... check.

I'm 1/4 of the way through Devil Hath Come (book 7) in the FBI/Romance series. It's my last book to write for this year. I really hope you all love it.
Elizabeth is going to be tested in this book. It's going to be about the loves of her life (Yes, Its a hot button with me. See previous blog) Can she live and function if half of her heart is taken away.

Am I killing someone?
Not telling you.
Will you be mad at the end?
At this point, who knows. I never believed sex would piss off people to the point that they wanted to storm my castle with fire and pitchforks!
I know where I'm heading with the book and by next week it'll be done. (Tammy will either love it or tell me its a crock of shit and redo it... )

On a different note, Vegas Is Dying (book 2) is on it's way to first edit/proof.
I'll be getting it back this weekend. That means that i'll clean it up and send it back for its final read through. It will be out sometime in July.

No proofing is perfect.
Since books are edited by people, things get missed. I know my books will sometimes have an error. I hope it doesn't detract from the book, but there are editing fiends out there that look for a missing period, or question mark.

I apologize and if anyone finds anything horrible, please email me. I'll make sure it gets handled.

Back to work.

Much love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

I've toiled about this...

As a writer, you never know what kind of feedback you're going to get. Sometimes it's good, sometimes its demoralizing and crushing. To be an author, you need to build that thick skin, know when to stand your ground and know when to cave.

Rarely do I cave. You can ask Tammy. I'm stubborn. Difficult. and I like to believe I know what the hell I'm doing with my characters, but sometimes she talks me into or out of things to save my hide.

Lately book sales have skyrocketed. (My publisher is thrilled and the Blackhawks will continue on!!!!) I appreciate each and every one of you. Even those that slam me for my books. I decided to write this blog today, not to show you the bad review, but to explain my position of WHY I made the Blackhawk/Whitefox threesome.

I'm going to post it here, not to humiliate or ridicule the person that left it, (because it's actually a really good review. Not everyone's opinion is going to match mine, and I appreciate it.)

Here's one of my 1 star reviews.

(I've removed the name.)

This review is from: Fire Burns Hot ((An FBI/ Romance Thriller~ (Book 5))) (Kindle Edition)
I had written a 5 star review for Sacred Burial Ground. ( I have deleted it.) I had never written a review before and I loved Ethan and Elizabeth so much that I replaced Eve and Roarke from the J.D. Robb series as my favorite couple. I bought all of the books in the series but have retuned the last ones because once I read that Elizabeth slept with Callan it ruined the entire series for me. No one finds their one true love only to say hey, after less than a year his brother is also my true love. You get your readers invested in this love story that is spectacular and then you destroy it by throwing in the brother. Plus Ethan was so devastated by his brother sleeping with the girl when they were young, do you really feel that his brother sleeping with his wife, THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE, would be ok. I loved your writing. You are witty, intelligent and sexual chemistry between your characters was awesome. I think it is too bad these books went in this direction. I know books are going in this direction a lot. I wanted you to know that this series was awesome without the added threesome, I would have bought every book you wrote, because you are an exceptional writer. I miss Ethan and Elizabeth already

Here's my response, and the reason for the entire blog entry today. I think that those of you out there that are on the fence about the threesome aspect of the books, needed to read this. Needed to see deep into me to see the reason behind them.

(Name Removed),
I'm sorry you went from loving the series to hating it. I'm also sorry that you felt the need to delete your excellent review for Sacred Burial Grounds to prove a point. I really did enjoy and appreciate it. As a writer, I have to let the story lead me, and from the inception of Callen back into Ethan's life, they felt like they both belonged to Elizabeth. Who is to say that in life you can only have one true love? Not I. I've had more than one 'true' love in my life, depending on the phase and place I was emotionally. The same is true with Elizabeth- only hers had converged at one time.
I let this story lead the way, with the hope to show people that deep in Elizabeth Is a love for both men, and how she'll balance it, live with the consequences and the dilemma. When I first wrote the book where Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen became a couple, I knew right away there'd be blowback. There is controversy in everything in life, and it makes for a good story. I wanted to take you... the readers on a journey. I didn't do it for the sex, or the eroticism. I did it to show you that a woman that had a deep propensity to love could break the rules and follow her heart. If she took a risk, there'd be rewards.
That's what Elizabeth did. In the end, it wasn't a cheap, tawdry fling. They all found what they were missing.
Ethan found the love of his life, but also found a family that was his forever as he learned acceptance of himself.
Elizabeth found people that offered her sanctuary an loved her for her brashness, hardness and sometimes crass behavior.
Callen found peace and safety, in a life that from conception was nothing more than one mistake after another.
Each was broken, hurt and damaged, and because of stepping outside that box, trusting the people they loved most, they became complete.
I didn't go there because its cool or everyone's doing it. I did this threesome as a couple to show love can flourish were it's expected to fail.
I'm sorry if it offended your personal likes and dislikes, but as the author, I let the book lead.
Elizabeth was strong enough to love both men and heal them and in return, they were her entrance into happily ever after.
If you love my writing, and my books except for the threesome aspect, I ask that you look past the simple fact that they're three people and see the beauty behind the relationship. The writing is the same. The wit and chemistry is still there. Nothing changed but me making you think outside the box. I did get my readers invested in a love story, and many have said they loved it. The love story never changed. It's still there and going strong. It's just not the same old love story told time and time again.
As a writer, that's my job.
I'm also to push your emotional response. Make you laugh, make you cry and help you visit a world you may not tread normally. It's a window into the unknown, and i'm very sorry you decided to stop peering in as the journey continues. ESPECIALLY since you enjoyed everything else. Their relationship is just one aspect in the story. There's Julian and Tori. There's Cyra and Chris, there are so many more characters that you would have met along the way had you stuck around for the adventure.
The series is still awesome, and I really think so are you. I love everyone that sits down and reads my books. I email an talk to many readers daily. I'm not here to bang out the books and make money. I'm here to entertain, tell a story and make you think. CAN YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE LOVE IN YOUR LIFE?
You don't believe so.
I do.
I appreciate your emotional response to the story, but I'm not sorry for pushing the limit, your buttons, or your comfort level when it came to the books.
My other series isn't going that route, because I'm pushing a different emotional response.
I again apologize that it upset you this much, and I understand that you were expecting more of the cookie cutter Eve and Roarke.

I'm not cookie cutter. I make no apologies for believing that you can love more than one person in life, and I still find the beauty, the love and the joy in writing about Lyzee, Ethan and Callen.

If you'd like to contact me, I would still love to hear from you.

Morgan.

These books are so much more than just sex. They're about three people's lives, their love and a family. I stand by my belief that a person can love more than one person at one time. I live it from personal experience myself.

Can everyone?
No. But there are individuals out there that have the propensity to open their hearts, love totally and completely and not be confined by the norms of our society.

Also, this is fiction people. LIGHTEN UP.
It's meant to entertain you.
Make you think.
Step out into a world you never would go yourself.
You don't read about aliens and get mad that someone wrote a book where they attacked our country and ate children.
It's fantasy.

I'm asking as an author you let me take you on a journey and you enjoy the trip, not get pissed because I didn't take you the route you usually go. I get the anger. I do, but really... direct it at something that deserves it.

As always,
Much Love, Mayhem (sometimes more than usual) and Murder.

Morgan.

Happy Weekend!

Hello all!

I am so sorry I've been MIA. It's crazy chaos here in Morgan-ville. You know how everything hits at once? Well, it has.
Tammy is proofing Vegas is Dying (book 2) in the Croft & Croft series.
Christmas is Killing (book 3) is ready to be cleaned up for editing and proofing in August.
I'm prepping to start writing Devil Hath Come (book 7) in the FBI/Romance series- Tomorrow.
Then I have to clean the last two up in order to give my BFF something to do while I'm at Myrtle beach for summer hiatus.

I'm starting to mix up characters.
My brain is like a can of alphabet soup.

Then there was the explosion of my books on amazon. HOLY CRAP! You are all the best. Yes, there's been some good review and particularly one bad one.
So, If you haven't reviewed the book yet (and have read them) please head on out to counter act that one star review she left me on Amazon.
Ouch! I know!!!!
Anyway, I want to tell you all I adore each and everyone of you so much! You've made me one of Amazon's top 100 authors. Currently, I'm number 38 for e-books and 43 in paperbacks.
THEN if that wasn't spectacular enough, I'm also proud to say that The Killing Times (1) is ranked number 67 in the romantic suspense category!

Thank you all!

I'll be writing the next Elizabeth book this week, so i'll be back in hiding!

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

Who's a happy girl?

I am!

Here we go with the Good News!

Thank you all for your outpouring of support and love! My FBI/Romance series has had an awesome week!
It started with The Killing Times( book one), hitting Amazon's top 100.  Yes, that's right! Elizabeth and Ethan hit the big time.
We didn't hang out there long, but it is a memory that i'll never forget! Every author dreams of being on the list, and you all made it happen! SO THANK YOU!

Next up is the little fact that the entire series is ranked under 10,000 on amazon. That means out of the one million e-books that are for sale on the site, my 6 books in the series are all ranked incredibly low.
YAY!
(as of this morning)
The Killing Times          rank 2,145
Sacred Burial Grounds  rank 5,562
True Love Lost               rank 7,836
Deep Dark Mire             rank  9,208
Fire Burns Hot              rank  9,194
Darkness of Truth         rank  5,233

Even Celestia is Falling is doing well at 40,726

I just wanted to thank you all! I really wish I could do it personally! I would in a heartbeat! I appreciate and love you all for your dedication to Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen.
NOW~ Everyone go write reviews! LOL. I am befuddled on how to get my readers to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Torture? Begging? Pleading? What do you think will work?

Okay, now on to the serious and the bad news.

My partner in crime in this journey, the elusive Tammy had taken on a war wound. Over the weekend she fractured her elbow. (NO I had nothing to do with it! I wasn't beating her to work faster!)
She'd doing well and as feisty as ever, but she may be slower working on the books with only one arm. We're fortunate that the writing year is coming to an end for us and the schedule isn't too full. (My year is Sept to Sept) What's left to be proofed is Vegas is Dying (book 2) and Christmas is Killing (book 3) in the Croft & Croft series and the holiday book Devil Hath Come  (book 7) in the FBI Series. I had initially planned on releasing Vegas is Dying at the end of July, but it may be close. I will try to get it out for August before I leave for my hiatus on the 20th. If not, I promise to work over vacation and figure out a way to get it taken care of for you all.
Devil Hath Come and Christmas is Killing will be out on schedule.

I know I've gotten a few emails this week wondering what was next and how many more books there were on the calendar. There are the three for this year and next year I'm looking at 6 books. 2 in each series and the MEGA MEGA Novel that's a crossover. (So that's more like 8 books.)

I did get a question that was pertinent, so I'll answer it today. Later in  the week I have more Q&A planned.

Morgan,
You mentioned a cross over book. What is that?
Cary

A crossover book is when you take one series and have it connect with another. In this case, the FBI/Romance series is going to meet and take on the Croft & Croft series. I'm planning to have Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen cross paths with Emma and Greyson.

What that means is if you haven't read FBI/Romance or Croft & Croft,  you'll need to or you'll be confused. The book will be coming out in both series, and I'm planning on two different covers. In paperback the book will be broken into 2 parts (I'm aiming for 800 pages, so it's like 2 books in one.) and on Kindle it will be one cover with two books inside. It'll just be broken into to pieces. When you get to the second part of the book, there will be a new title page and then the story will continue. I'm doing this because not everyone has a kindle. To buy an 800 page paperback would be over 20 bucks. I hate gouging people for money.
So, if you buy it in paperback, it'll be in 2 books. If you buy it in e-book, it'll be one book.

Again! Thank you  all for making this an amazing week on amazon! Without you I couldn't be an author!

Keep reading, KEEP EMAILING, and please leave a review! I love your feedback!

Much love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

A funny thing happened today.

I logged onto Amazon and saw my ranking for The Killing Times  In one hour it went from 67,000 (which is really good) to.......

5,661.

How do I even explain this?
I can't

All I can say is thank you for spreading the word and telling your friends and their friends and anyone else that would listen.

You all are the absolute best.

Thank you.

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

Good Morning!

Hi all!

Been a busy two weeks for me. I'm on the time crunch before I leave for my summer hiatus.
I just finished my read through of Vegas is Dying (2) and it's off to Tammy on Monday or Tuesday for proofing. I hope she loves it! I have to say, I'm a big fan of Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen, BUT I am madly in love with Emma and Greyson.
Something about him just makes my heart flutter.
Hello Director Hotness!

Today I have to start detail loading into Christmas is Killing (3) in the Croft & Croft Series. I need to clean up the sex scenes and get it ready for my read through. It's going to Tammy in August for the proofing, while I'm away for a month soaking up the sun.
I'm very happy with it.
I never know how I'm going to feel about a book until I finish it, but I'm pleased.

I know you all have been emailing me and asking questions, so I figured today I'd get to some of the questions! I love hearing from you all, and thank you for your amazon and goodreads reviews. Please keep them coming!

Morgan,
Which is your favorite book out of all you have written and why?
Lenore.

Lenore, I have to be honest. When I am writing a book, that's generally my favorite. I had one book I absolutely didn't love, and it turned out to be the best selling one in the series. Go figure! BUT if I had to pick a book in the FBI/Romance series, I'd say it's Deep Dark Mire (4). I'd pick that one, because that's the start of the relationship between Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen. It's kind of where it all starts in my head, since I'd been working up to unveiling it. Although, I believe that Devil Hath Come (7) may be the new favorite. BUT since it's still not down on paper, I don't know.

In the Croft & Croft series, (since I have up to book 3 finished and know what's coming) I have to say that Vegas is Dying is my favorite in that series. I happen to be a fan of all things old. I like vintage jewelry. I love collecting antiques and old glass. So, when I had the opportunity to create two characters, I took a chance and made Emma and Greyson very old school. I think that is conveyed in Vegas is Dying and Christmas is killing.

Morgan,
You mentioned in your blog you like tattoos. Do you like them to look at or do you have any?
Vanessa

Vanessa, I like to look at them and I have them. In fact, I just rocked out a new one two days ago. I'm working on my arm, and Tammy was kind enough to watch me sit through it. I even booked our next appointment together. I'm going to get her all tatted up before it's over with.
I have my back done, along with my ribs on one side and my lower back too. I don't ever post personal pictures of me or information, since I'm super low key, but this one was appropriate. I got it in honor of all my released books.

I always said I would tattoo 'Live to Write and Write to Live' on my body when I became successful enough to make a living on my books. Well, I've reached that mark, and here it is. The tattoo goes further up my arm. I just couldn't get it all in the picture.
I'm a fan of black ink. I only get my tattoos in that medium. It's just my thing. The birds are to pay homage to the FBI/Romance series for giving me flight into writing world. It's far from done, my plan is to do the entire arm and connect it to my back tattoos.

My next tattoo is of my kid's names. I promised my daughter I'd let her pick the spot on my body, and of course she went for the ribs... Most painful spot on the whole body. You have to love teenage girls...

I think of tattoos as milestones. Yeah, buying a purse hurts a lot less, but you don't have it forever. That ink is never coming off and the pain, it's part of the process- much like writing a book. You have to bleed for your craft. Two hours of a needle jabbing your arm is NOTHING compared to the pain of giving life to a novel.
Both are very worth it in the end!

Okay, back to work! I have people to kill and bodies to bury!
(okay, and kids to put on a school bus.)

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,
Morgan.

Happy Sunday all!

I'm just coming up for air from writing, and I figured I should blog something since it's been a week.
First, I apologize for being a slacker. I have emails to return, blogs to write and a book to wrap all today.
Sometimes I need three more hours a day.

Here's what's going on in Morgan-land. I'm about to wrap Christmas is Killing (book 3) in the Croft & Croft series.
Yeah, Christmas. It's not easy to write a Christmas themed book in June while you're sitting by the air conditioner.
Needless to say, I'm wrapping it tomorrow morning. Today was the deadline, but with kids out for the summer and other distractions, I didn't get it done on time. One week wasn't feasible to put out 440 pages. I need that one extra day, so I'm taking it.
Once finished, I have a final read through of Vegas is Dying (book 2). Once that's done, it's going off to Tammy to proof for me.
When am I releasing it?
No idea. Maybe July or possibly August before I leave for vacation.

Next up for me? I have to work on Devil Hath Come (book 7) in the FBI/Romance series. The cover is done, the concept is thought out, and now it's just a matter of having it completely finished before August 1st.
THEN.... (Drumroll please) I'm done for the year! YAY!
Okay, not writing. I have 4 more books to do for the spring, but I can kick back and take my time. Julian and Tori are going to have 2 books out by Easter. Elizabeth had one more for around valentines day, and then we have the mega novel for Emma, Greyson and the FBI Characters. I'm going to put them all in one book, so if by spring you haven't read the 3 Croft & Croft books, you'll need to in order to understand the story line.
I can't wait for that one.
What happens when badass Elizabeth Blackhawk runs into more demure Emma Croft?
Oh the possibilities.
Someone asked me if I was actually going to put out a mega mega novel.
I plan on it. It'll be almost 700 + pages. YES there'll be a lot more sex, so if you're anti-sex, skip the pages and move through the book. If you love the sex, well then i'm going to make a lot of you happy.
(YAY!)
Anyway, that's it from my world. I'll post more this week when I have a moment to breathe. I'm so busy that I've not even taken my mother or Tammy's calls.
Yeah, that's pretty damn busy!

If you read Darkness of Truth, please leave a review. If I want to keep publishing the series, I have to have feedback. If you haven't left a review for any of the books...
*Gasp*
Elizabeth's looking for you....

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan

Help! I've been kidnapped ....

by the next book!

TODAY IS THE DAY!

For all of you that have been waiting for the next novel in the FBI/Romance series with Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen, wait no longer.

It's here! RELEASE DAY!

Head on out to Amazon and get your copy! (Don't forget The Killing Times is free today! Spread the word!)

I hope you all love it as much as I do! One more adventure under the belt as I begin planning out the following book in the series. In the next book, Devil Hath Come the family is going to be facing down a killer that is specifically asking for their attention.
He wants the focus  of one of them and it's going to be a fight to the death, with someone in the trio possibly losing their life.

It's time to stir Elizabeth's life up to watch the dust settle. Nothing will be the same again and we'll find out if love can heal vicious wounds inflicted to the heart.
We're also going to get the romance started between Cyra Austin and Doctor Chris Leonard.

Should be interesting!

But first, we have the sequel to Celestia is Falling. I can now announce that today I finished the detail add to Vegas is Dying (book 2) and tomorrow I begin book three in the series, Christmas is Killing.  By November, my hope is to have all three books out and there for you to enjoy.
The first book next year in this series is going to be a cross over. You'll get Emma and Greyson facing a big challenge and needing back up. In will ride the Blackhawk/Whitefox trio.
YAY! A cross over!
But not just any one will do. With that much love and murder going on, you know it's going to be a VERY big book. (As in a double novel) I'm going to give you all a bigger book to read. (In case 500 + pages isn't enough!)
I'll be writing it over Christmas and you can look for it around April.

Okay, I'm off today to celebrate my release of Darkness of Truth and I think I'll don the bikini and catch me some sun!

Thank you all for your following! I'm no one with out you!
Read the new book and leave a review!

Darkness of Truth Prologue.

Today,I'm going to post the prologue to the new book, BEFORE it's released.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Here it is....

Darkness of Truth  (book 6) in the FBI/Romance series

            ~Prologue~

 Red River Indian Reservation

            March

Darkness is never to be shunned, especially when you spend all your time creeping through its inky blackness, working your magic. These skills were the essence of their kind and had been for hundreds of years. They were passed down from one generation to another in the form of myth and story.

Only it wasn’t legend in this case. It was truth and it was fact. They existed and were on the hunt to right the wrongs that were committed against them so long ago.

Their people endured.

They continued on despite it all.

And they held a wicked grudge over the man that restrained them and crushed their dreams.

Now it was time to take that step from the darkness, seeking revenge on those hell bent on destroying what was never theirs to begin. Soon they would pay with the ultimate price.

Their lives.

He stood beside the fire, built to offer warmth as the cool air circulated around him and his next victim. Soon his captive’s time on this side of the spirit world would come to an end. It was simply how it must be.

When you committed the ultimate sin, you paid the ultimate price. There could be no bargaining or making of deals.

What’s done was done, sealed in blood, and offered up to the hands of fate.

Pulling out his deerskin sack, he rolled it out and inspected his tools of the trade. The blades were sharp and glinted in the moonlight and firelight. Everything was there and ready to be utilized in his quest.

Running his finger over the edge of the knife, it drew a single line of crimson blood. Immediately, he placed it in his mouth, tasting the salty essence of life drawn from his body. It gave him pleasure and joy to feel the power in the sacred fluid.

It was all about that blood.

The sacred fluid was with us from birth until death.

In life, some were born to Native mothers and others born of the outsider, but what it all came down to was who you were inside the shell, and what you could become.

Destiny could be decided with one moment of fate.

He had chosen to be one of the dark wanders and that meant everything to him. His father had been the same, passing it to him in secrecy. Always warning him to not get caught, as so many wouldn’t understand why it needed to be done.

Protect their people.

Uphold his heritage.

Be strong and indestructible.

Remain a shadow, hidden in plain sight.

In life there were many hidden secrets and deceptions needed in order to endure. That is true of all the ones who came before him, and those that were destined to follow. Existence is all about working your way to the top of the food chain and holding on for dear life.

It was exactly what he intended to do.

Remain at the top.

Be the predator and not the prey.

He took the herbs from the pocket of his pants and tossed them into the fire, watching them burn in the flames, filling the air with the acrid smoke.

Inhaling deeply, he reveled in the ancient strength it gave him to carry on with his plan. Already the mix began taking effect. His vision wavered, his head fogged, and he was beginning the transformation. It was time to start the ritual, and doing what needed to be done.

Tonight was about protecting his people once and for all.

With a few words in his native language, he blessed himself, knowing he was indeed ready to take care of the prone victim, lying on the ground. With more spoken language, unbeknownst to his captive, he prayed to his ancestors for the strength to take the life before him, granting him the ultimate prize of his energy.

Stripping down to almost nothing, he dipped his finger carefully into the ash of the fire, smudging it onto his chest in symbols that his father had taught him years ago as a boy.

They stood for justice.

They offered power.

They revealed the truth for all to see.

Now began the ritual, and the start to the beginning of the end. He danced around the flames, tossing more sacred herbs into the fire, needing more intoxicating smoke as he enjoyed the ritual as much as he knew he’d enjoy the killing.

Ultimately wasn’t that what it was all about?

Taking a life and making the energy yours was a thing of beauty, and something to be relished and enjoyed. Anyone could steal a life, but absorbing the good and the bad energy and building your own strength was a finely honed skill.

It was the skill of one of the skinwalkers and the harvesters of the night.

It was that of the witch and warrior.

Most importantly, it was a secret that none should see.

After the dance was done and the stage set, he moved to the body lying beside the tree. His hands were bound behind him, and he was hogtied, so as not to escape. Not that it would matter. Then he’d simply hunt him down. The man had no clue as to where he’d been taken, and to run would simply mean being tracked like some wild animal.

His chapter in the book of life was already written. Fate had its final say and tonight, the gatherer was about to sow.

The reaper was calling and the answer was obvious.

The eyes of the soon to be victim were filled with fear and terror, as he watched in horror at the scene that was unfolding. Now he knew, his life was forfeited and soon to be lost to the more powerful. One minute he had been out checking on his cattle, and the next he was waking beside the fire.

It was funny how life had viciously wicked, twists and turns that no one seemed to see coming. Had he known tonight was his end, surely he’d have stayed inside with his wife.

The shadowy figure picked up one of the horrifically sharp knives, kneeling before his captive. It was time to take care of business.

“Don’t worry my friend; this won’t hurt a single bit. I promise to be fast.” He ripped open the bound man’s shirt, searching for the exact right spot. “You sinned against my people, and now I find you guilty.”

His struggles and muffled pleas were met with nothing but disregard.

There was no mercy.

There was no clemency.

There was only judgment and justification for the sins committed. Now was a time to show them that someone watched and would offer up justice.

Punishment.

With more ritual words, he plunged the knife deep into the man’s chest, piercing his heart. Pulling the blade out, he watched the blood ooze from the wound. The sticky red life ebbing back towards Mother Earth, and the dirt from which all life had sprung. “You’ll go quickly now.”

The victim tried to scream for help, but to no avail, no one would hear him out here. This was the end of his existence, and he had so much more he wanted to accomplish. He watched as the mostly naked man dipped his fingers in his blood and smeared them on his chest and arms along with the symbolic marks made of ash.

His blood was no longer his and neither was his life.

The darkness came and the truth was evident.

He was collected from life into deaths cold hands.

The reaper of spirit watched his victim’s body shudder out his last and final breath, before he cut free the ties that bound him. Now for the part that mattered most. He needed to take one last thing from the man before he could call it a night.

He got to work, doing the job as he was taught years ago. It was tedious and difficult to do it correctly, tearing nothing and making sure it remained in one piece. Each slice in the skin was vital to complete the next.

It was a finely tuned craft.

When he was done, he stared at it in awe and wonder.

It was one more job well done.

Another soul that was now his.

Most importantly it was one more perpetrator taken and tried for his crimes.

The victim’s spilled blood freed him, cleansing the man of the deeds he’d done.

This was a masterpiece worthy of his kind; Native and skinwalker alike.

An evening in late March

The scene had been set and the trap was laid. The victim would be coming soon to commit his offenses. He’d watched him every week for months to learn his patterns and routines. At first he’d come to the land once in a while, taking only for personal use, and it was overlooked. Then as time passed, he became greedy. Monthly foraging became weekly and that became daily. Soon it was nothing more than pillaging what wasn’t his to take.

It had always been their unspoken law. Take only what you need, waste nothing and leave some for others.

Not this man. He was stealing money from the people that needed it most. He was creeping onto their sacred land and destroying it to dig for his precious prize. The vile outsider thought nothing of taking from Mother Earth, stripping it of all the resources much like his invading ancestors had before him.

The reaper remained still in the bramble, hiding in plain sight as he observed the man digging in glee, finding his ill-gotten gains. Once he located them, he’d sneak back off the reservation until the greed overcame him again, luring him back on the hunt for more.

It had to be stopped.

The pillaging and desecration needed to come to an end.

The judge, jury and executioner had been sent out to sow justice and reap the guilty for their crimes.

Since he’d taken what wasn’t his repeatedly, the favor would be returned tenfold. Watching him kneel beside a tree, he waited until the man was fully engrossed in the act of theft and violation of the Native lands. As he shoveled dirt, brushing away the surface layers, the shadow slid effortlessly across the Earth, taking his place behind him.

It was time.

With a swift strike of a rock, the man crumbled forward onto the ground, never seeing the one that would be voraciously stealing something from him now too. The life he bartered away for the greed of money was now the sought after prize.

He shook his head in sympathy, knowing that it was far from a hunt and sport when it came to the outsiders. In their minds, they deemed the Natives weak and complacent. Well, their naivety would be their downfall- even if he had to level the playing field one cheater at a time. Thankfully, the man had wandered close enough to the ritual site, and he wouldn’t have to drag him far at all.

He patted the herbs in his pocket as he mentally ran over the plan, step by step. The ritual would be done, the life forfeited, and the intruder punished for his audacity.

It was time to get down to business and take what was now his.

Let the punishment fit the crime.

Two hours later

The ritual had been completed without incident, and the prize had been removed without a single error on his behalf. It was a delicate art to completely skin an entire human being. Animals were easy, but a man was exact work.

Stripping away the protective layer of the body was tedious. Slowly slicing between the meat of the flesh and the papery thin skin was an exact science. One wrong slip and the entire work of art was ruined. Once completely free, it was time to begin the most enjoyable part of the evening’s festivities.

The ritual.

As he slipped into the man’s forfeited skin over his own, it gave him a sense of power. The cooling layer coated his in a wet barrier, offering up the dissipating energy. As he danced around the fire, singing the story of his people and the legend of the skinwalkers, he harvested the dead man’s essence.

This moment was why he was the reaper.

The energy around him sizzled, as he tossed more herbs into the fire to keep the mood intact. He found that the cathartic scent made it even more enjoyable. No longer did he find it pungent, but now it was addictive and gave him pleasure- so much that his body ached for more in response.

Finishing the ritual, he rolled up the newly obtained prize and placed it in a plastic garbage bag until later to keep it moist. Inside, he also placed the man’s scalp, laughing at the irony of a Native scalping another unworthy white man. He’d hide them both as soon as he returned to his cabin to clean up. They were one more trophy to be stashed away with the memories and the joviality, knowing he was protecting his people. Later, they may come in handy.

After all, waste not want not…

Already he swore he could feel the transfer of spirit from the dead to the living. This was the allure of the skinwalker, and he completely understood why so many before him travelled the same taboo path.

It was all about this moment, as his aura greedily swallowed anything it brushed against.

It was invigorating to say the least.

Glancing over at the deceased, he dragged him into the cave dwelling with the other victim. Making room beside the animal bones and carcasses, he’d placed there many times before. When he couldn’t find a person, he’d use the animals found on their land.

Now that he’d taken a human life, he could say it simply wasn’t the same.

This was far better, because it was pure justice for their people.

Recalling the final step, he grabbed his pack from the mouth of the crevasse and left his calling card. It was his way of marking the kills as his own, in case another skinwalker happened to find them.

Laying down a pure white feather, he smiled, content and at peace.

“Justice is served,” he whispered to the dead, even though they’d never hear his words.

“Go in peace.”

He knew he would.

Across the country in Cypress Grove

It had been a long seven months.

When she found out she was three months pregnant and going to raise a child alone, Desdemona Adare was at first afraid.

Now, not so much.

It hadn’t been easy being pregnant and working full time in a town she’d learned to despise. Coming back had been a mistake, and she was paying for it dearly.

Her feet hurt.

Her back hurt.

Her grand’mere was still pissed she had gotten knocked up by an Indian, and so was she. Then again, it had been her choice to not tell him about the baby. Once he dumped her for Elizabeth Blackhawk, her ex-best friend, there was no going back.

She’d made the decision and now it was going to be her burden to carry alone. The hate she was feeling for the people Desdemona once claimed to love filled her and threatened to boil over. It took the deep cleansing breaths to get past the rage.

There were other issues she had to deal with that were far more important than a man she despised and a woman who betrayed her. Desdemona was almost ten months pregnant now. In her heart, she believed that there’d be some maternal attachment to the child due in days.  Isn’t that what should happen?

Yes, there was a cute nursery and plenty of things purchased after she sold her grand house back where she once belonged. But there was no excitement about having this child…

Alone.

If Callen Whitefox had still been at her side, possibly there would be joy and happiness, but at that moment none existed. Maybe it would come when she held her child in her arms the very first time.

Or so she hoped and prayed.

God knew she was on her own from here on out. Her grand’mere wanted nothing to do with the bastard child, and informed her of that repeatedly. This was her mistake for bedding down with an Indian, and she should have known better. Anything from here on out was weighing on her shoulders alone.

The birth.

The child’s life.

The eighteen long years before her offspring would leave the nest.

Desdemona sighed. Deep down, she wanted to call Callen and tell him about his child in hopes he’d come take it. Sadly, Desdemona swore she’d never contact any of them again, and that was her plan. Why give him a gift that he didn't deserve, especially when he opted to leave her side so easily.

Once she found out about the pregnancy, she believed there would be a strong support system for her, and that being the only reason why she opted to follow through. Although Desdemona’s half sisters and brother had held no grudge toward her after what had happened, anger still lived in their hearts, much like it did in hers. When the truth came out and Desdemona informed her step family who the father of her child was, the shit hit the fan again. When their father committed suicide and brother was killed by Elizabeth Blackhawk in that swamp, it was a brutal few weeks and no one wished to return there. The half-breed child she carried would do only one thing.

Reopen the wounds and be a daily reminder of what had happened.

No one forgave the FBI for the hell that had opened up around them. Granted, Elizabeth Blackhawk saved her life, but she also took the life of their brother. Jonathan, Holly and Ivy Delray were still damaged over the loss of Vinny, despite him being an incest enjoying, murdering nutjob.

Desdemona patted her giant belly and tried to feel maternal towards the half native baby, preparing to enter the world.

Maybe time would change her feelings.

Or maybe her heart was just too hardened over what should and could have been.

One would have to wait and see.

Until then, this was her lot in life. She was trapped in a hellish swamp, as a barely needed ME with no prospect in life. It wasn’t long ago she had it all. A six figure job, a gorgeous home, a sexy native man in her bed- my how the mighty had fallen.

Resentment filled her.

Anger surrounded her.

Where life prepared to spring free and be born, bitterness threatened to swallow it whole.

Nothing would ever be the same again.

Nothing.

My little giggle for the day

Sometimes in life, you just have to roll with whatever comes your way.
In my life it's occasionally a bad review or something book related. Last night as I reacquainted myself with Facebook, (I left last year because it was soul sucking) I was blocked out of my three day old account.
Why you ask?
I'm possibly not a real person.
Whaaaaa?
Really FB? If you've ever gotten that warning from them, you now know the conundrum I face. I have to send them two forms of legal ID to prove that I'm truly Morgan Kelley. I've had to procure documents that have my pen name on them.
Now, for someone that doesn't write under a pen name, that may be easy, but Morgan Kelley isn't my birth name.
ahhhhh, the dilemma. So, I sent my IRS LLC papers, a driver's license, and a photo of one of my first books that has my picture on the back.
I had to show less ID to give birth. Next they'll want DNA too.
Really.
So, I'm pretty sure that my days as Morgan Kelley on FB may be coming to an end. It does make me wonder though, how there are so many accounts with weird bogus names and they don't get pulled. Hmmmmmm.
If I was a conspiracy freak, I might be worked up into a frenzy on this one.

So, back to work it is, and Vegas is Dying (2) is in progress. I'm about 1/4 of the way through it and will begin writing the holiday sequel next week.

Maybe. Unless I can get the real Morgan Kelley to do it for me...

Much love, Mayhem and Murder,

AKA Morgan.

I love a surprise!

First off, Happy Memorial Day, USA.
Please remember why we celebrate this wonderful holiday, and when you see a soldier, thank them and appreciate the sacrifice they've made for all of us to be free!

Next, I woke up to the most amazing review of The Killing Times, by a terrific book reviewer, Lynn Worton.
Seriously, it was amazing. There is nothing better in life than reading a review and knowing the person gets it. She picked up everything I wanted to portray in Elizabeth and Ethan Blackhawk.
It was perfect.
If you want to read it too, then here's where you can find it.

It was a fabulous surprise to find this morning on Facebook, Amazon and also BlogSpot. Thank you, Lynn Worton!

Now, back to business.
Darkness of Truth (6) is done and will be released in paperback on Friday and Kindle on June 1st. So, be ready for it!

Today I begin rolling out the details for Vegas is dying (2). It's already 443 pages long and 145,600 words in length, so there isn't much more to be added. Maybe another twenty pages. I'll wrap the details this week, proof read it next week and then begin the sequel, Christmas is Killing (3). I'm dying to write that one! I think I have it all executed in my mind and ready to go. I need to have it done by July 1st, so I can write Devil Hath Come (7).
Both releases will be towards the end of the year and the final ones for 2013.
Momma needs a book writing break.
I'll still be working, but anything that pops out of my mind, will be for the 2014 season. I have 6 books planned for next year, with a MEGA book in the works for next holiday season. It's going to be an FBI/Romance and Croft & Croft cross over.
So, it'll have Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen crossing paths with Greyson and Emma Croft in an assignment so difficult, it's going to take both teams to pull it off.
People will be dying.
Bleeding and hurting before I'm done... (Shocking, I know...)

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

Okay, have a great Memorial Day! I'm off to make coffee and start working on Vegas is Dying (2). (I love the book! It cracks me up...)

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,
Morgan.

Wednesday is a preview of the new book day!

On Wednesday, I'll be posting the entire prologue to the new book.

So, pop on in and check it out, if you're curious to meet the crazed killer that's going to make Tori, Julian, Elizabeth, Ethan and Callen's life hell...

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan.

How it all started..

One of the questions I get most frequently is where I came up with the idea of Elizabeth and Ethan Blackhawk. You would think that it began with them, but oddly it didn't.

It's no secret that I'm part Native American. I've always loved the culture and the outdoors. Take me camping and set me free in the woods and I'm in my glory. I despise the city and noise. I believe that's my Native roots.
One day, I found a painting online and fell in love with it. When I saw the price tag, I laughed. I wasn't paying that much for an oil on canvas print. So, I decided to recreate it. I'm a lover of painting, and think I'm fairly skilled at it. What did I have to lose?

So, I got messy and created my fireplace work of art.
As it began to unfold, and I began seeing the person in the abstract colors, I gave him a name.
Timothy Blackhawk was born.
If you've read my FBI/Series, you know him from book 2, 3 and 4. He's the head of the Blackhawk clan, and the 'Shaman'.
I knew then that by some intervention I had created a very important work of art, not only for my mantel, but also for my stories.
Thus, the Blackhawk family was born.
To this day, I see him in his majestic glory and I fall more in love with the story and the characters, and today, I thought I'd share him with you.

As I prepare to release Darkness of Truth (book 6) in the series, it seemed appropriate to give homage to the man that started it all.

Here he is. (He's relatively large- over five feet tall, so excuse me squishing him down a little)

Shaman Timothy Blackhawk

Without him, there'd be no Elizabeth, Ethan or Callen.

Have a great day!

Much Love, Mayhem and Murder,

Morgan
